Frequently Asked Questions

Largo Learning Academy has a new website!!

What is Largo Learning Academy?

Largo Learning Academy is a homeschooling cooperative which consists of homeschooling and unschooling families from the Pinellas County area working together to provide a gathering place for our children to engage in learning and social opportunities. Largo Learning Academy is a faith-based group; however, we do not teach classes that would promote a specific church’s doctrine. Our mission is to provide a quality environment in which children are nurtured while engaging in classes and activities in a climate of mutual respect. We offer classes for elementary, junior high and high school aged students.

Is Largo Learning Academy a Christian group?

Largo Learning Academy is a faith-based group; however, we do not teach classes that would promote a specific church’s doctrine. Do you have to be a Christian to join this co-op? No, you do not. We are committed to respect and honor all of those who participate. We will not, however, modify our beliefs and practices because non-Christian members are present.

How much does this cost?

The co-op registration fee is $35.00 per family-per semester. In addition to the registration fee, some co-op classes may have a materials/supplies list. Classes with excessive material usage may be more expensive. Please note class fees when selecting classes for your family. The registration fee of $35.00 is due on Monday, January 13th, 2020. All class fees are due by the end of the first day of classes. (Class fees may be broken into two payments, if needed.  Please check with each teacher individually or with Vickie).  Class fees will be paid directly to the teacher of each class. Please note the type of payment each teacher accepts.

What is the refund policy?

All registration fees and materials/supplies fees are NON-REFUNDABLE. Class fees are NON-REFUNDABLE after the end of the first day of classes. The only exception would be if Largo Learning Academy would cancel a class due to low enrollment. Under those circumstances, refunds would be made.

Does my child have to attend the co-op all day?

No. Families can sign up for as many or as few classes as they wish. Parents are welcome to sit in on a class if they’d like to observe or if their child will need them in the classroom for support.

Where do I check in or register my child?

Every child will check in each morning at the Sign-in/Sign-out table.  Parents will pick their children up from their last class.  ALL STUDENTS MUST BE SIGNED-IN UPON ARRIVING AT COOP AND MUST BE SIGNED-OUT UPON LEAVING!!

What does my child do if he/she has an hour without a class?

A study hall will be offered for all students during the hours they do not have a scheduled class. Your child may complete their schoolwork, visit quietly with friends, or use electronic devices during study hall times. All electronic devices are the responsibility of the child and/or parent. You are responsible for your child’s online activities.

Is there a dress code?

Yes. All participants should attempt to dress in a modest and congruous manner while attending co-op. If you are unsure if something is appropriate, it is probably best to choose another form of attire. PLEASE try to abstain from wearing items that have offensive illustrations or slogans. Girls, we all relish to wear what is in style….but PLEASE DO NOT wear short-shorts. If wearing a mini skirt maybe consider wearing a pair of short underneath. We would also appreciate not seeing entire tummies or specific body parts that are exposed from wearing a too low-cut top/blouse. Boys….we do not particularly care to see the brand of boxers you wear. So PLEASE keep the pants pulled up. Thank you!

What is the sick policy?

Sick children belong at home. PLEASE DO NOT bring them to co-op! There are many yucky ailments out there and we all need to attempt to do our best to keep our children and teachers from becoming sick. If your child has symptoms such as a temperature of 100 degrees or higher, the flu, vomiting, diarrhea, a green or yellow gooey nasal discharge or a persistent cough, PLEASE keep your child at home. This would likewise include head lice, pink eye, and so on. In the event that your child falls ill while at the co-op, you will be called to come pick him/her up.

What is our volunteer policy/responsibilities as a parent at the co-op?

A co-op is unique in the sense that the participation of all parents is necessary. We cannot emphasize this enough. Because we function as a co-op, we do require that parents volunteer two times per semester.  A few of these tasks include teaching, helping in the classroom, lunchtime help/cleaning and monitoring children during lunchtime outside play, and end-of-the-day cleaning. On occasion, because we are parent-operated, an emergency arises to cover a class. It is expected that the parents will rise to the occasion and offer the extra help. If you prefer to not volunteer, you may pay the opt-out fee of $30.00. Hopefully, this information will help you realize how important you are to all of the teachers. You can sign-up to volunteer at the sign-in/sign-out table. If you have any parent volunteering policy questions, please text or email Tina Ambrose.  215-948-2121 or

What about lunch?

Your child may bring a lunch from home. We have a refrigerator and microwave available for lunches. We also offer pizza for $1.00 per slice, drinks and snacks for purchase throughout the day. There will be a pizza sign-up sheet at the coop sign-in/out table. Lunches must be ordered and paid for by 10:30 am on the day it will be served.

Can my  child bring a cell phone, electronic device or laptop to co-op?

Cell phones, electronic devices, and laptops may be brought to co-op, but please keep in mind that you are responsible for your child’s electronic device and online activities! These devices may not be used during class time without permission from the teacher and they must be put on silent mode. NO TEXTING is allowed during class time.

If I have additional questions or concerns, who should I contact?

Please do not hesitate to contact one of the leaders of the co-op if you have any questions, concerns or if you need clarification on any other points within the FAQ. Leadership contact information is available under the “contact us” tab on the Largo Learning Academy website.
